Knitted Cardigans
Knitted cardigans are back! What is a girl to do?
She rides her quirky little boat along, so daintily avoiding the tides of fashion, and two years in a row she sees that they're carrying such beguiling fayre that she gets her cardigans in a veritable twist and muddles her metaphors!
Last year it was the sculpted bodice with a frill down the front and scallops and ruffles at cuff and high-low hem - occasionally with applique, peplum and an oh-so-sweet fur collar*. In Soho and Chelsea, Hackney and Angel**, knitted cardigans were the hippy hippy chic. Tulip wraps and flounces abounded.
This year the long, the short and the skinny tail of it is that nearly anything goes. What can a girl do?
This girl has decided to dive in and swim with the lions. She is abandoning her rule that dictates that she will abandon all rules. The baroque and the bohemian have come home to roost.
She will drape herself elegantly in long knitted cardigans, jeans and high boots (not mid-length ones. What do you take me for? Uggh). Go cropped in boleros, leggings and Schuh! (perhaps not. Her behind isn't what it was). Wear cross-overs in angora, with twinkle skirts and ballerina flats (are you crazy?! you're not 12 any more). Go grandpa in boyfriend casual and sip cocoa by the fire...
Or you can just knit your own.
*imitation, of course. All pussy-cats, bunny rabbits and foxykins know that imitation must be the epitome of flattery.
**if you don't know these places, you have never been to London. No, they are not people's names. And a flying 7-day visit does not count. Must do better.
***What do you mean, you "don't know what peplum means"!? Where were you educated?
